The race on the 9 May will include the team and individual championships for both men and women.
England Athletics head of teams and competition Andy Day said, “We are delighted that this year’s 10k championship will take place in Bristol. The Bristol Half Marathon is now a well established part of the road running calendar and the 10k is rapidly taking its place as one of the highlights of the road running season.
“Last year’s race saw some very good performances at the front end of both the men’s and women’s races with English athletes running personal best times and season’s bests.
“We look forward to there being strong competition in the event this year and to our best athletes taking the opportunity to race each other head-to-head in our national championship.”
England Athletics selected the Bristol event on the basis of the standard of the competition provided, the high standard of organisation and the suitability of the course for producing fast times.
Georgette Van Hoof, Bristol City Council’s race director, added: “Bristol is pleased and proud to host the 2010 England Athletics 10k championships as part of the 2010 Bristol 10k.
“The 10k course, which follows the River Avon and passes under Brunel’s famous Bristol Suspension Bridge is noted for being both flat and fast. As a result, participants at every level, from England’s best athletes to absolute beginners will stand an excellent chance of securing a personal best.”
