TRIBRISTOL BECOMES QUALIFIER EVENT FOR ITU SPRINT TRIATHLON WORLD CHAMPIONSHIPS IN AUCKLAND 2012: 15 July 2012.
Bristol’s historic docks are hosting the Bristol Harbourside Triathlon for another year as TriBristol achieves qualifier status during this Olympic year. Both sprint and standard (Olympic) distance races will take place on 15 July 2012 and represent one of the last opportunities to race in open water triathlon before the commencement of the Olympic Games in London.
The race is set in the Cumberland Basin which provides a spectator friendly view of the entire swim course. This is a unique opportunity to swim in normally prohibited waters and no other organization has ever been permitted to swim here. New for 2012 is the selection of this race as an ITU Sprint Triathlon World Qualifier for Auckland 2012.
The bike and run sections provide one of the few opportunities in the UK to race triathlon on closed roads. The course is fast and flat and includes the Portway, under Brunel’s famous Clifton Suspension Bridge. It is friendly to both novice athletes and those looking to achieve fast times. The adult race is open to 1,000 age group athletes who can take place in either sprint or standard (Olympic) distance racing.
The race is being run by BADTri (Bristol and District Triathletes), supported by Bristol City Council and One Step Beyond.
